About the City
Roissy is a commune in the northeastern suburbs of Paris, France in the Val d’Oise department. It is located 20.7 km. from the center of Paris.
City Areas
The village is located in the centre of the plain of France, on a vast plateau slightly tilted south to Paris, consisting of Saint-Ouen limestone, particularly resistant to erosion, which provided a tabular structure in the region.
Attractions
Roissy’s biggest attraction is probably the Charles de Gaulle airport. Spanning over six towns the airport is truly something. Other attractions include the exhibited Concorde near the town’s cultural center and the contemporary sculptures scattered around the town.
Transportation
As the town is very close to Paris, it is fairly easy to get there. The Charles de Gaulle airport, also known as Roissy CDG, serves the town as well as the capital and five other towns near Paris.
Events
The small commune of Roissy, although a few km from Paris, isn’t as festive as the capital. Not many things can be said about the festivities in town as the only mentionable ones are the end of the year festivities of the music and dance schools and the Japanese film festival.
Restaurants
Quiet streets lined with houses typical of the Ile-de-France, a traditional village with small shops and restaurants typically French. You are in Roissy-en-France, in the heart of a true Parisian village, pretty and green.
History and Civilization
Roissy en France shares much of Paris’s history, but has also some history of its own. The town is first mentioned in Roman times, but not much is said about the small village until the 15th century.
L’Orangerie
Inaugurated in 1996, L’Orangerie is the cultural center of Roissy. Although it was built as housing for all types of exhibitions, galleries and other cultural events, the center also contains numerous rooms dedicated to literature and music.
